Taiwan to open representative's office in Cebu, the Philippines

Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Tuesday that Taiwan is preparing to open a representative's office in Cebu, the Philippines.

According to Lin, the office, Taiwan's second in the Southeast Asian country after Manila, will serve travelers and businesspeople in the central Philippines, a popular tourism destination.

Lin made the remarks when asked during a radio interview about a Nikkei Asia report on the new office published Monday.

Lin did not say when the Cebu office would open.

More than 200,000 Filipinos currently work in Taiwan, Lin said, adding that Taiwan and the Philippines both offer visa-free entry to each other's nationals.

In addition, Lin said, Taiwan has proposed the Taiwan-Philippines Economic Corridor, an initiative designed to connect Taiwan with the U.S.-Japan-Philippines-backed Luzon Economic Corridor to build more resilient supply chains.
