Taipei, Nov. 5 (CNA) Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) will depart for Germany on Saturday to attend the Berlin Freedom Conference, where she is scheduled to give a speech, Tsai's office said Wednesday.
Tsai Shu-ching (蔡舒景), spokesperson for the office of Tsai Ing-wen, said in a statement that the former president has been invited by the Berlin Freedom Conference to deliver a speech at the event, which will take place on Nov. 10, as part of the Berlin Freedom Week scheduled for Nov. 8-15.
The former president hopes to help Taiwan deepen its relations and cooperation with Germany and other democratic partners in Europe through her trip, Tsai Shu-ching added.
Tsai Ing-wen's office did not respond to CNA's questions on whether the former president is scheduled to visit other countries and how long her trip will last.
It will be the fourth public overseas trip by the former president after she left office in May 2024.
The Berlin Freedom Conference is organized by visitBerlin, the Axel Springer Freedom Foundation, and the World Liberty Congress.
The inaugural conference, which commemorates the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, is aimed at advancing the values of freedom and democracy around the globe, according to the statement.
Bringing together government officials, journalists, business representatives, and members of the public, the Berlin Freedom Week aims to promote democratic and liberal values and encourage participants to take action for positive change, the statement said.
