Taipei, Nov. 4 (CNA) Taiwan's government has donated US$700,000 (NT$22 million) to two international NGOs providing humanitarian assistance to people in the Gaza Strip, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) announced Tuesday.
In a news release, MOFA said that US$500,000 of the total was donated to the International Medical Corps (IMC).
The donation was made after Taiwan's government signed an MOU last month agreeing to fund a 10-month project by the Los Angeles-based IMC to deliver essential medicines and equipment to the Gaza Strip via Jordan and Egypt, according to MOFA.
In addition, US$200,000 was donated in early October to the World Central Kitchen (WCK) to support the Washington-based NGO's "Chefs for Gaza" initiative, MOFA said.
The initiative will see WCK establish two large-scale field kitchens in Deir al Balah and Khan Younis, providing 300,000 hot meals per day, it said.
The latest donations come after Taiwan's government provided US$500,000 to Mercy Corps Palestine to supply food, clean water, clothing and tents to those in need in Gaza.
