Taipei, Nov. 15 (CNA) Taiwan's representative to Poland Sharon Wu (吳尚年) on Tuesday signed several memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with representatives from the Ukrainian city of Bucha and several non-governmental organizations, pledging a combined US$3.8 million in aid.
Wu signed the agreements while attending the second edition of the "Rebuild Ukraine International Exhibition and Conference," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said in a press release.
The exhibition and conference are being held in Warsaw from Nov. 14-15.
Wu first signed an MOU with Ukrainian NGO "Alliance of Development" representative Mariia Makivnychuk to help fund the futUkraine Center project to offer shelter to temporarily displaced women and children.
Wu then signed another MOU with Yaryna Yasynevych of the "All-Ukrainian Democratic Forum" to provide equipment and online courses to displaced Ukranians through the "Leave No One Behind Partnership."
Wu also signed an agreement with Bucha Mayor Anatoliy Fedoruk to provide US$300,000 to help rebuild a sports facility in the Ukrainian city.
In addition, Fedoruk signed an MOU with Wu in his capacity as a member of the "Association of Ukrainian Cities" to promote cooperation with Taiwanese municipalities.
Wu went on to sign another pact with Regina Maistrova from the Christian Medical Association of Ukraine to donate US$1.9 million to treating burn victims injured during the ongoing Russian-Ukraine war.
The last MOU the envoy signed Tuesday was one with Oleksandr Khomiak, head of Ukrainian NGO "NO Labels," where she pledged on behalf of Taiwan to donate another US$1.6 million to help a PTSD research and treatment project and related studies, MOFA said.
Aside from attending the two-day Rebuild Ukraine International Exhibition and Conference, Taiwan's representative office in Poland also set up its own Taiwan pavilion in the exhibit to showcase its ongoing efforts to help Ukraine, MOFA said.
As of February this year, the government and people of Taiwan have donated 27 tons of emergency medical supplies and 700 tons of humanitarian aid to Ukrainians, MOFA said.
Taiwan has also donated more than US$41 million to humanitarian organizations working with Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Lithuania to help settle Ukrainian refugees in those countries, according to MOFA.
