Indigenous Amis youth carry a canoe into the sea during a coming-of-age ceremony in Lidaw village, Hualien County, Saturday. In preparation for the ceremony that is held every eight years, young Amis people 12-20 years old usually undergo a one-month training program to learn the history, traditions, and canoe making skills of their ancestors, whose arrival in Taiwan is also celebrated at the ceremony.
