The local manufacturing sector's purchasing managers index (PMI) for May hit 54.9 points, up 0.3 points from a month earlier, while the non-manufacturing index dropped 0.9 points from a month earlier to 47.9 points, indicating a recovery in manufacturing activity in Taiwan for the month, the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research (CIER, 中經院) said Wednesday.
