Taiwanese director Liao Hsiang-hsiung (廖祥雄), who pioneered several filmmaking policies for Taiwan's filmmakers when he worked for the government, passed away on April 2 at the age of 89, the Taipei-based Chinese Society of Cinematographers confirmed Wednesday.
