Japan Transocean Air to launch Okinawa-Taoyuan flights in February 2026

Taipei, Oct. 30 (CNA) Japan Transocean Air (JTA), a subsidiary of Japan Airlines (JAL), announced Thursday that it will launch its first regular international route between Okinawa and Taoyuan, Taiwan, in February next year, with one round-trip flight per day.

JTA, which mainly operates domestic routes, said in a press release that the Okinawa-Taoyuan service will begin on Feb. 3, with tickets to go on sale starting Dec. 3.

The Japanese carrier plans to serve the route with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, offering both economy and premium economy classes. In addition to traveling to Okinawa, passengers from Taiwan will be able to take advantage of the JAL Group's extensive domestic and international network centered on Okinawa to plan hub-based itineraries in Japan.

According to the Tourism Administration, 3.87 million Taiwanese travelers visited Japan between January and July this year, indicating that Japan remains the most popular overseas destination for tourists from Taiwan. As a result, many airlines have been expanding routes between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Taiwanese carrier Tigerair Taiwan also announced last week that it will launch three new routes to Japan, including Kaohsiung-Kumamoto and Tainan-Kumamoto starting Dec. 23, and Tainan-Okinawa starting Dec. 25.
