Taipei, June 8 (CNA) Taipei digiBlock, a digital technology industrial park that aims to help Taiwan grow its augmented and virtual reality industry, will officially open on June 29, according to the city's Department of Economic Development (DOED) Friday.

The premises, located on Section 3 of Chengde Road in the city's Datong District, take up about 1,790 ping (5,917 square meters) and includes three large buildings, the DOED noted.

The area used to be occupied by offices under the city's Department of Labor, but after a renovation two years ago, it has become a meeting point for businesses related to the digital industry.

Officials said Taipei digiBlock will be able to assist at least 15 new startups to set up in the industrial park each year. It can also promote cooperation projects between the startups and large-scale enterprises, the DOED said, adding that it will focus on accelerating the development of augmented reality and virtual reality technology in Taiwan.

DOED Commissioner Lin Chung-chieh (林崇傑) said that the industrial park will be able to integrate domestic and foreign digital industry software and hardware, as well as talent.

It is created to serve as a platform for cooperation and exchanges between industry, technology and talent.
