Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting wins Olympic gold amid gender misconceptions

Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting won the country's first-ever Olympic gold medal in boxing on Saturday after defeating Poland’s Julia Szeremeta by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the women's 57-kilogram (featherweight) division. The 28-year-old pugilist was recently subjected to unfounded accusations over her gender status but received support in Paris as well as back home in Taiwan, where many have called her "the daughter of Taiwan."
