Migrant workers rally in Taipei to scrap 12-year work limit

Around 1,000 people took part in a biennial Migrant Workers Rally in Taipei on Sunday to appeal for the elimination of a limit on how long migrant workers can work in Taiwan. CNA spoke to workers from Indonesia and the Philippines about their views on this year’s appeal and other issues that concern them and many more of the over 800,000 migrant workers in Taiwan. Later Sunday, the Ministry of Labor responded to the appeal by referring them to the Long-term Retention of Skilled Foreign Workers Program it introduced in April 2022. It said that migrant workers admitted into the program are not subject to the work-year limit, provided they meet certain experience and skill requirements.
