Taipei, July 5 (CNA) Taiwanese Liu Wan-yu (劉宛渝) captured Taiwan's first gold medal at the 2019 Summer Universiade in Naples, Italy, on Friday when she won the women's trap shooting event.

Liu, a student at National Chiayi University, represented the country at both the Asian Games in Indonesia last year and the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan, Russia.

In the final of the event, the Taiwanese beat Italian Rossi Fiammetta 39-35 to grab gold, the first Taiwan has ever won in the event at a Universiade.

Prior to the games, Liu said she was delighted to be representing Taiwan in Naples and noted she will also be partnering with Yang Kun-pi (楊昆弼) in the mixed doubles.

The 30th Summer Universiade is being held in Naples, Italy, from July 3 to 14.
