Taipei, July 18 (CNA) A fire that broke out in an apartment building in Hsinchu County early Saturday claimed the life of one resident, according to the county's fire bureau.
According to the bureau, although five residents were rescued by first responders, an 18-year-old woman lost her life after jumping from the building at the scene in Xinfeng Township.
The Hsinchu County Fire Bureau said the woman showed no signs of life when firefighters arrived.
Efforts to resuscitate her at a medical facility were unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, firefighters rescued five residents trapped inside the building during the fire.
According to the bureau, one adult and one infant among the five rescued were taken to a hospital after feeling unwell.
The fire was extinguished at 2:13 a.m. Saturday morning, the bureau said, adding that a preliminary investigation indicated that the fire could have originated from an electric bicycle, though the cause of the fire yet to be clarified.
The bureau said it deployed a total of 12 fire trucks and 25 firefighters from various precincts alongside 22 volunteer firemen in response to the incident.
