Taipei, July 11 (CNA) Offices and schools in some mountainous districts and townships across Taiwan will remain closed on Sunday due to heavy rains and disruptions caused by Typhoon Bavi, local governments announced Saturday.

The areas include Fuxing District in Taoyuan; Wufeng and Jianshih townships in Hsinchu County; Taian, Nanzhuang, and Shihtan townships in Miaoli County; and Heping District in Taichung, the local governments said.

Work and school will also be suspended on Sunday in Kaohsiung's Namasia, Taoyuan, Maolin, Jiaxian and Liougui districts, as well as in Wanrong and Mingli villages and Fonglin Township in Hualien County, according to the local governments.

Meanwhile, the outlying Matsu Islands will also suspend work and classes on Sunday.

In other regions across the country, offices and schools will function as usual.

As of Saturday night, Typhoon Bavi was located north of Taiwan, moving in a northwest direction.

The storm was carrying torrential rains and strong winds that prompted closures across Taiwan's main island Saturday, except in Taitung County on the east coast.

The Central Weather Administration has forecast that Bavi's radius will move away from Taiwan by late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
