Taipei, July 11 (CNA) Environmental authorities in Taipei and New Taipei said Saturday that they will provide trash collection services on Sunday to facilitate the cleanup in the wake of Typhoon Bavi, which had disrupted the routine of their garbage trucks for two days.
In Taipei, the garbage trucks will make their usual rounds at the regular times on Sunday night, allowing residents to dispose of household waste and storm debris, and the 30 designated drop-off sites will also be open, the city's Department of Environmental Protection said.
New Taipei will follow a similar routine, but there may be earlier pickups or additional collection runs in some areas, according to the city's Environmental Protection Department.
New Taipei residents are advised to check local announcements or listen for the chimes that signal the garbage trucks' arrival, the department said. Residents can also use the city's online garbage collection tracker to check the trucks' locations and estimated arrival times, it said.
The additional services have been scheduled for Sunday, which is usually not a trash collection day in Taiwan, as all work was shut down in the two cities and elsewhere on Friday and Saturday due to the typhoon.
As part of the post-typhoon cleanup efforts, residents are urged to get rid of standing water around their homes to prevent mosquito breeding, the authorities said.
