Taipei, Oct. 28 (CNA) Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said Tuesday that completion of the airport's third runway has been pushed back from 2030 to 2032.
At a routine Ministry of Transportation and Communications press conference, Pi Chin-ling (畢金菱), assistant vice president of the airport operator, said the relocation of residents from the site reserved for the new runway has been postponed until the end of 2026, delaying construction, which is expected to take at least six years.
The planned third runway, located north of the airport's existing site, began the first phase of construction in September 2023, Pi said.
To meet the airport's transport needs and reduce the impact of the construction, 16 temporary overnight aprons have been planned in the airport's northeast corner.
They will be reserved for Taiwan-based airlines for priority use, Pi said.
Nine of the aprons have been in operation since July, while the remaining seven are expected to be completed before the Lunar New Years holiday in February 2026, she said.
Meanwhile, the northern concourse of the airport's third terminal is set to begin trial operations in December, Pi added.
