Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) Widespread disruption and flooding have occurred in Taipei and across northern Taiwan following days of extremely heavy rain.

Classes were moved online at Chinese Culture University (CCU) located on Yangmingshan, a mountainous area in northern Taiwan.

Some CCU students complained about the timing of the school's announcement, saying on social media they braved heavy wind and rain to reach the campus before the remote instruction announcement was made that morning.

Elsewhere in northern Taipei, Soochow University (SCU)'s Waishuangxi Campus experienced flooding after water levels rose, with some students comparing it to China's Yellow River.

Severe rain and winds also affected campuses in Taipei's Wenshan District, where National Chengchi University (NCCU) students reported almost getting blown over when getting lunch.

NCCU students described rainwater pouring down a sloped pathway on campus as the school's "river rapids" or "water park."

In Taipei's Shilin District, a landslide occurred along Jingshan Rd., but no injuries were reported, according to the Taipei City police and fire personnel.

In Zhongzheng District, a section of retaining wall collapsed near homes behind Dingzhou Rd. on "Treasure Hill," a historical settlement now serving as an art village, leading to the evacuation of one household, according to the Taipei City Government Department of Cultural Affairs.

Outside Taipei, heavy rains also caused flooding in Wujie Township's Lize Village in Yilan County, where farmland and rural roads were submerged under 30 centimeters of water.

County police sealed off the flooded area to prevent vehicles from entering.
