Kaohsiung, Sept. 9 (CNA) No injuries were reported after a fire broke out at the Hsinta Power Plant in Kaohsiung at around 8 p.m. Tuesday, according to the city's fire department.
The Kaohsiung City Fire Department, which dispatched 25 vehicles and 57 personnel to the scene, said the cause of the blaze and the extent of any damage remain under investigation.
Operated by state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower), the Hsinta Power Plant is a thermal power facility with the third-largest installed capacity in Taiwan.
Taipower said preliminary reports indicate the fire occurred during testing of the plant's new natural gas Unit 2 and is suspected to have been caused by a gas leak.
The flames have been extinguished, all plant personnel are safe, and a detailed investigation into the incident is underway, the company added.
