3 suspects detained in connection with relative's death in Yunlin
Yunlin, Dec. 2 (CNA) Three people in Yunlin County have been detained by police following the death of a family member, who was believed to have been beaten to death on Friday, according to prosecutors.
The detainees are the parents and brother of the 28-year-old deceased man surnamed Chen (陳), who was taken to hospital in the early hours of Friday after he fell unconscious, the Yunlin District Prosecutors Office said in a press release Saturday.
Prosecutors said Chen had suffered out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the hospital, where efforts to resuscitate him failed.
Preliminary investigations have indicated that Chen was tied up and beaten unconscious at his home in the county's Huwei Township, and the main suspects are his parents and younger brother, a Yunlin prosecutor surnamed Chu (朱) told CNA on Saturday.
The three family members have been detained on suspicion of inflicting injuries that resulted in death, possibly after collusion, Chu said.
The exact cause of death will be determined after an autopsy, Chu said, adding that the circumstances leading to the fatality were still being investigated.
