Japan Airlines flight delayed nearly 8 hours at Taoyuan airport
Taipei, Oct. 6 (CNA) A Japan Airlines flight at Taoyuan International Airport has been delayed nearly eight hours after the aircraft was slightly damaged Sunday morning as it was being towed to the gate ahead of being boarded.
No passengers were yet on board when the lengthy delay of Japan Airlines flight JL-802 scheduled to depart for Narita Airport at 10 a.m. Sunday morning was announced.
The new departure time was set for 5:50 p.m.
The delay was needed after the underside of the aircraft's left engine covering scraped against a passenger gateway at around 9:24 a.m. as the ground crew was towing the empty aircraft toward gate D2, according to Taoyuan International Airport Services.
Though a preliminary examination revealed no clear damage to the engine itself, the airline still decided to dispatch another aircraft to Taiwan to replace it.
Details of the incident are yet unclear, but it is suspected that the ground crew mistakenly towed the aircraft too far into the parking bay.
The people involved took a breathalyzer test, which showed that their alcohol level was zero.
The Civil Aeronautics Administration has been notified of the incident, and related authorities are investigating its exact cause.
