Chance of afternoon showers on Tuesday: CWB
Taipei, July 18 (CNA) The weather will remain sunny with scattered clouds around Taiwan on Tuesday, with a chance of thunderstorms in parts of western Taiwan and mountainous areas in the afternoon, according to the Central Weather Bureau's (CWB) latest forecast.
Temperatures will remain high during the day, hovering from 34 to 35 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and 32 to 34 degrees in eastern Taiwan, the CWB said, and it urged people to protect themselves against the sun and stay hydrated.
Tropical Storm Talas, which moved across Indochina on Tuesday, will dissipate gradually to become a tropical depression and will not affect Taiwan, according to the CWB.
Former CWB forecaster Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), who now teaches at National Central University and often issues longer-term forecasts, said Tuesday the sunny weather will last for a week until July 24 but warned that the atmosphere could become unstable in the afternoon due to the heating of the surface air.
Tropical disturbances are likely to develop in the South China Sea and sea waters east of the Philippines over the next five to 10 days, which would be conducive to the formation of a tropical storm or typhoon, according to Wu.
