Taiwan to amend food safety law amid starch scare (update)

The government will push for an amendment to the Act Governing Food Sanitation, to allow increased penalties for violators, after several local food products were found to contain starch tainted with maleic acid, Vice Premier Mao Chi-kuo said Wednesday.
