Taipei, July 29 (CNA) Taiwan's main opposition Kuomintang (KMT) plans to open registration in September for its chairperson election, with voting set for Oct. 18 after the Aug. 23 recall votes, party sources said Tuesday.
In the July 26 recall vote, the KMT defended all of its seats in the Legislative Yuan. Another seven recall votes targeting KMT lawmakers are set for Aug. 23.
A party member says Tuesday that a draft of the chair's election rules suggests registration might open in early September, with the election scheduled for Oct. 18.
The party's national congress is tentatively scheduled for late October or early November, when the chairperson handover will take place.
The member added that all the schedules followed existing party rules.
The KMT will continue to prioritize ensuring all seven lawmakers survive the Aug. 23 recall votes, the member said.
According to the KMT party charter, the chairperson serves a four-year term. The current chairman, Eric Chu (朱立倫), is set to complete his term in October this year.
