A paper mache Da Shi Ye, believed to be a version of Guanyin Bodhisattva, is seen in the hall of Minsyong Da Shi Ye Temple in Chiayi County when a three-day Ghost Month ritual started Thursday. The paper mache deity will be burned on Sunday by worshipers praying for a peaceful end to Ghost Month, when the spirits of the dead return from the underworld. CNA photo Aug. 18, 2022
