Starlux to adjust excess baggage fees from Sept. 1

Taipei, Aug. 24 (CNA) Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines will adjust its excess baggage fees from Sept. 1, with the highest fee set at US$280 per piece, the airline announced Monday.

The new fees will vary by destination and will apply to passengers whose tickets are issued or reissued on or after Sept. 1, the airline said in a statement.

Destinations will be split into three regions, with the first covering Asia, excluding Southern Asia and Taiwan, as well as Guam.

The second region covers Canada, Southern Asia, Oceania, the Middle East and the western United States, including Los Angeles, Ontario, San Francisco, Seattle and Phoenix.

The third region covers the rest of the United States, Europe, Africa, and Central and South America.

Starlux, Taiwan's newest international carrier, said the adjustment was made with reference to industry standards and was necessary as its flight network continues to expand and the number of transfer passengers increases.

Passengers can pay in advance for excess baggage online up to three hours before departure and receive a 20 percent discount, the airline said.

Passengers who do not pay in advance will be charged for excess baggage, including additional pieces, overweight baggage and oversized baggage, according to the airline.

Passengers whose tickets were issued or reissued on or before Aug. 31 will continue to be charged US$150 per piece on short-haul flights and US$200 per piece on long-haul flights.
