Taipei, June 1 (CNA) Four Taiwanese carriers have either canceled or adjusted the schedules of their flights to Japan on Tuesday as Tropical Storm Jangmi approaches that country.
According to data released by Taiwan's Central Weather Administration (CWA) at 2 p.m. Monday, the eye of Jangmi was located about 90 kilometers south-southwest of Naha, Japan (some 580 km east of Taipei).
The storm is moving north-northeast and gradually turning northeast at a speed of 26 to 38 km per hour, and is expected to hit Japan, the CWA said.
Tigerair Taiwan announced Monday that flights IT230/IT231 between Taoyuan and Okinawa's Naha Airport and flights IT288/IT289 between Kaohsiung and Naha on Tuesday will be delayed due to flight safety considerations.
The budget airline advised passengers to check the "Flight Status" section on its website for the latest updates.
Meanwhile, EVA Airways said its early morning BR112 and BR113 flights between Taoyuan and Okinawa on Tuesday have been canceled, but noted that the aircraft for its late afternoon flights BR186 and BR185 will use larger Boeing 777-300ER to accommodate affected passengers.
EVA Air also reminded passengers to check its flight status website before heading to the airport due to uncertainties surrounding the storm.
China Airlines, Taiwan's largest carrier, said its CI150 flight from Taoyuan to Nagoya on Tuesday evening has been canceled, while flights CI172/CI173 between Taoyuan and Osaka and CI176/CI177 between Kaohsiung and Osaka will depart earlier Tuesday than scheduled.
Flights CI120/CI121 between Taoyuan and Okinawa, CI178/CI179 between Taoyuan and Takamatsu, and CI118/CI119 between Taoyuan and Kagoshima will be delayed, according to the airline.
Wednesday's CI151 flight from Nagoya to Taoyuan has been canceled, while flights CI154/CI155 between Taoyuan and Nagoya will be operated with larger aircraft than usual.
China Airlines said it will continue to update flight schedules based on changes in the storm's path and advised passengers to check its website, mobile app, or SMS notification service for the latest information.
Taiwan's newest carrier, Starlux Airlines, previously announced that flights JX870 (Taipei-Okinawa), JX871 (Okinawa-Taipei), JX302 (Taichung-Okinawa), and JX303 (Okinawa-Taichung) on Tuesday will be delayed.
