More than a week after the shooting death of a Taiwanese fisherman in an overlapping marine zone of Taiwan and the Philippines, little progress has been made between the two countries on resolving the resulting dispute.
On Friday, a day before a Taiwanese investigative team returned from Manila empty handed, Taiwan’s President Ma Ying-jeou said Taiwan cannot accept the Philippines characterization of the shooting as an unintentional loss of life, which he said amounted to a denial of responsibility for the incident.
