PFP official, former lawmaker Liu Wen-hsiung dies

Taipei, July 31 (CNA) People First Party (PFP) Deputy Secretary General Liu Wen-hsiung (劉文雄) passed away at Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital on Monday. He was 62.

Liu was rushed to the hospital on July 21 at around 1:20 a.m., after collapsing at his residence in Keelung. He had no vital signs when he was sent to the hospital, and had been in a coma since then.

According to his family, Liu had been vomiting after drinking and then lost consciousness.

Upon learning the news of Liu's death, Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung (徐國勇) conveyed his condolences to his family, describing Liu as a former colleague and a very special friend.

Liu, who served in the Legislative Yuan from 1999 to 2008, was one of the most important aides to PFP Chairman James Soong (宋楚瑜).
