Tokyo, Sept. 15 (CNA) Renho Murata, a half-Taiwanese, half-Japanese journalist-turned-leader of the opposition, told CNA Thursday that she hopes Taiwanese will lend moral support to her endeavors in Japan.

Under pressure for holding Taiwanese-Japanese dual nationality, Murata, the newly elected leader of the Democratic Party, said she would appreciate recognition from Taiwan.

"Taiwan is my father's home. I am working hard in Japan, and I hope that Taiwanese will root for me," she said.

The 48-year-old, who has served in the upper house of parliament for 12 years, won by a landslide, with 503 out of the 849 votes cast.
