Ex-finance minister appointed to Hong Kong economic body

Hong Kong, Jan. 18 (CNA) Christina Liu, a former finance minister of Taiwan, has been appointed a member of Hong Kong's newly established Economic Development Commission.

Liu is among the 22 non-official members of the agency, Hong Kong's Information Services Department confirmed.

The agency, headed by Hong Kong Chief Executive C.Y. Leung, is responsible for advising the Hong Kong government on strategy and policy to promote economic growth and development of the special administrative region.

The commission comprises four working groups on transportation; convention and exhibition industries and tourism; manufacturing industries, innovative technology and cultural and creative industries; and professional services.

In addition to 22 non-officials, the commission also has four ex-officio members.
