7 Taiwanese films to be presented at Taiwan Film Showcase in U.S.

Los Angeles, Nov. 11 (CNA) Seven Taiwanese films will be screened at the 2017 Taiwan Film Showcase, which kicked off Sunday and will run through Tuesday in San Diego, according to a press release by the Taiwan Academy in Los Angeles on Friday.

The showcase is the biggest annual presentation of Taiwanese cinema outside of the island and is held at the Price Center Theater of the University of California San Diego (UCSD) as part of the 2017 San Diego Asian Film Festival, according to the festival's website.

The press release pointed out that the films to be presented include "Mon Mon Mon Monsters," a Taiwanese horror-comedy, directed by Giddens Ko (九把刀), "The Great Buddha+," a dark comedy directed by Huang Hsin-yao (黃信堯) and "Small Talk," a documentary film directed by Huang Hui-chen (黃惠偵).

Other films also include, "The Last Verse," a drama directed by Tseng Ying-ting (曾英庭), "A Fish Out of the Water," a drama directed by Lai Kuo-an (賴國安), "The Silent Teacher," a documentary directed by Maso Chen (陳志漢) and "Who is Arthur Chu," a documentary by Scott Drucker and Yu Gu, according to the press release.

The annual showcase, which is in its 6th consecutive year, is sponsored by the UCSD Chuan Lyu Foundation for Taiwan Studies, the UCSD Taiwan Studies Lecture Series, the Taiwan Academy Los Angeles and Taiwan's Ministry of Culture, according to the festival's website.
