Taiwan still battling migrant fisher abuse

Four years after Taiwan-caught fish were first placed on the United States' List of Goods Produced by Child Labor or Forced Labor, there is a sharp difference in perception on how well Taiwan is protecting migrant fishers' rights between the government and NGOs. The government insists that steps have been taken to address problems facing migrant fishers, but crew members and labor rights groups say abuses are still common. Which view prevails will likely determine Taiwan’s fate when the U.S. publishes its next list of products produced by forced labor later this year.
