Taipei, Jan. 14 (CNA) The Taiwan Ladies Professional Golfers' Association (TLPGA) and the Japan Ladies Professional Golfers' Association (JLPGA) on Wednesday announced that the 2026 Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament will be officially included as part of the JLPGA tour.
It is first time in 46 years the JLPGA has included an overseas event, making Taiwan the only overseas stop on the tour in 2026.
The tournament's purse has also been raised to a record US$2 million, the second-highest prize pool on the JLPGA circuit.
Japanese golfer Yui Kawamoto and Japan-based Taiwanese golfer Wu Chia-yen (吳佳晏) attended the press conference announcing the development.
Kawamoto, who will also compete in the TLPGA event, said this was her first visit to Taiwan, adding that the country's warm hospitality and close ties with Japan gave her a sense of security. She expressed hope that the tournament will allow fans to experience the "energy" of women's golf.
Wu, 21, won her first JLPGA title in November 2025.
The 2026 Taiwan Foxconn Ladies Golf Tournament will be held from March 12-15 at the Orient Golf & Country Club in Taoyuan.
