Taiwan wins 2 championships in Pony League baseball world series
Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) Two Taiwanese teams have achieved their goals in the United States Pony League baseball world series this year, with one winning the champion title of the Palomino 18U tournament in Laredo, Texas and the other triumphing in the final of the Bronco 12U world series in Los Alamitos, California.
In Los Alamitos Monday, the Taiwanese team comprised of 11-12 year-old players from Jhong-Jheng Elementary School in Kaohsiung overpowered contenders from Mexico City 15-0 in just five innings.
Starting pitcher Sung Po-han (宋伯翰) and his relief Hsu Hsiang-chun (許翔鈞) suppressed the Mexican batting, making them the key players in taking their team to victory.
It is the second Bronco League World Series championship Taiwan has won since 2016, when a Taiwanese team, also comprised of players from the Kaohsiung Jhong-Jheng school, beat Puerto Rico 4-0 to win the title.
Meanwhile in Laredo, Taiwan defeated Los Angeles 2-0 Monday to grab the championship of the 2018 Pony Palomino League World Series. It is the fourth Palomino championship Taiwan has taken since 2006.
The Pony Palomino World Series is played by young athletes aged between 17 and 18 years old.
