Taipei, Nov. 7 (CNA) A Taiwanese driver and his Filipino passenger were killed Friday on National Freeway 3 in Chiayi County after their light truck collided with the back of another vehicle stuck in traffic.

The National Highway Police Bureau's Eighth Police Brigade said it was still investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred at around 10:20 a.m. near Zhuqi Township.

The 31-year-old driver of the light truck, surnamed Lu (盧), and his 38-year-old passenger, identified only as Alexander, were alive when firefighters pried them from their heavily deformed vehicle but later died in hospital, the brigade said.

The 40-year-old driver of the heavy truck that was hit from behind, surnamed Lee (李), sustained only minor injuries, it added.
