Taipei, Aug. 17 (CNA) The highest temperature seen around Taiwan on Sunday was 38 degrees Celsius recorded at a weather station in Wugu District in New Taipei, Central Weather Administration (CWA) data showed.
The CWA issued an advisory Sunday morning that New Taipei would experience temperatures of 36 degrees or higher for three consecutive days but it revised the warning at 12:16 p.m. to caution people of temperatures of up to 38 degrees.
The temperature high in Wugu was set at 1:20 p.m.
The initial warning issued for New Taipei of three days of above average heat also applied to the cities of Taipei, Taoyuan, and Tainan, and the counties of Changhua and Yunlin, according to the CWA.
Shezi in Taipei's Shilin District posted the day's second highest temperature at 37.6 degrees, CWA data showed.
Locations in Taipei's Neihu District and Changhua's Puxin Township both recorded 37.2 degrees, followed by 36.8 degrees in New Taipei's Sanxia District and 36.7 degrees in Taoyuan's Luzhu District, CWA data showed.
In Changhua, Beidou Township saw the mercury hit 36.5 degrees, while the townships of Tianwei and Lukang recorded temperatures of 36.4 degrees.
The CWA forecast that a rain-bearing system south of Taiwan would move north on Monday and Tuesday and bring showers and thunderstorms to Pingtung and Taitung counties and chances of afternoon thunderstorms across Taiwan.
Temperatures of 26-34 degrees have been forecast for northern Taiwan for both days, with temperatures of 25-33 degrees expected in central and southern Taiwan, and temperatures of 25-31 degrees expected in eastern Taiwan, according to the CWA.
