Taipei, Oct. 29 (CNA)Taiwanese author Terao Tetsuya (寺尾哲也) and translator Lin King (金翎) will take part in the 2025 Toronto International Festival of Authors (TIFA), displaying their work and joining three different discussion forums.
King, the English translator of Taiwanese author Yang Shuang-zi's (楊双子) "Taiwan Travelogue" (臺灣漫遊錄), will speak at two sessions at the festival on Saturday.
In one session, King will discuss "Literature in Translation," alongside Beninese-Canadian writer Ryad Assani-Razaki and Singaporean writer Jeremy Tiang, and in the other forum, she will speak on "Echoes Across Eras," along with South Korean writer Jinwoo Park.
The first discussion will be held 4:00-5:00 p.m. at Northrop Frye Hall, Room 003, and the second 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Emmanuel College, Room 319.
Published by Graywolf Press in November 2024, King's translation of "Taiwan Travelogue" has received critical acclaim, winning the National Book Award for Translated Literature and the Asia Society's Baifang Schell Book Prize.
King has also been shortlisted for both the National Translation Award in Prose and the First Translation Prize by the American Literary Translators Association (ALTA).

Also on Saturday, Terao, whose real name is Tsao Sheng-hao (曹盛濠), will attend a panel discussion on "Stories Without Borders," speaking alongside Canada-based author Sheung-King. The session will take place from 2:30-3:30 p.m. at Victoria College's Alumni Hall.
"Spent Bullets" (子彈是餘生), which won the Golden Book Award and the New Bud Award at the Taiwan Literature Awards, is set in Taiwan and Silicon Valley and explores themes of ambition and the search for meaning in contemporary life.

The English translation by Kevin Wang (王可) was released by HarperVia on Oct. 14, 2025.
TIFA, founded in 1974, is Canada's largest and longest-running literary festival.
This year's edition, being held Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, will feature around 100 events -- including talks, readings, and masterclasses by writers from more than 10 countries, according to the festival website.
