Taipei, May 30 (CNA) Search and rescue efforts are ongoing as rescue workers search for a Mexican man reported missing after swimming with a group of friends off Taiwan's outlying Green Island on Friday, according to the Coast Guard Administration (CGA).
The report about a missing foreign national on Green Island's Dabaisha beach was received at 1:48 p.m., the 13th Coast Patrol Corps under the CGA Eastern Branch said in a news release.
Coast guard officers stationed on the island were immediately dispatched to the scene and learned that the man had been with two friends from Hungary and India, the patrol corps said.
However, the Mexican national was nowhere to be found when his friends returned to shore after entering the water together, the report said, leading authorities to believe he may have been swept out to sea by the current.
A patrol boat was later deployed, while nearby fishing boats also volunteered to help.
As of 4 p.m., the missing man had not been found.
