Taipei, March 23 (CNA) The weather in Taiwan will be relatively stable until Thursday despite significant day-night temperature differences, but it will then turn wet across the island as a weather system passes through, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) forecast Sunday.

The agency has observed relatively low humidity in Taipei and New Taipei since Saturday, caused by the southward shift of a high-pressure system from the north, which brought dry, cold air, according to CWA forecaster Liu Pei-teng (劉沛滕).

With the high-pressure system gradually moving away, the moisture in the air over Taiwan will increase from Tuesday, Liu said.

However, most areas in Taiwan will experience sunny to partly cloudy weather until Thursday. During this time, southeasterly winds will bring moisture, leading to scattered rainfall in Taitung County and the Hengchun Peninsula, the forecaster said.

Starting Friday, Liu said a passing weather system, combined with strengthened seasonal northeasterly winds and a continental cold air mass, will bring a dramatic shift in weather and cover the entire island in rain.

Liu said northern Taiwan could see showers and thunderstorms, while other regions are likely to experience occasional showers or thunderstorms.

There will also be intermittent rain in areas north of central Taiwan, the island's eastern half, and mountainous regions in the south from next Saturday through the following Tuesday.
