Taipei, Feb. 11 (CNA) Taiwanese license holders can now drive in Estonia for up to one year with an International Driving Permit and an official translation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.

Those wishing to get an official translation of their Taiwanese driver's license should consult the list of government-approved official translators on the Estonian Ministry of Justice and Digital Affairs website (https://www.justdigi.ee/en/legal-services/sworn-translators), Josephine Lee (李秀窈), deputy head of MOFA's Department of European Affairs (MOFA), said.

The cost of translating the license ranges from 60 to 100 euros (US$61.83 to US$103.05) and will take two to three days, according to Lee.

Taiwanese road users in Estonia must also first apply for an International Driving Permit from their local motor vehicle office in Taiwan.

Those who hold a Taiwanese government-issued driver's license, an official Estonian translation of that license, and an International Driving Permit will be able to drive in Estonia if their stay in the Baltic state is shorter than 12 months, Lee said during a MOFA weekly briefing.

Lee added that Taiwan's government welcomed the move by the Estonian government, which is expected to benefit Taiwanese short-term business travelers and tourists.

Taiwan's transportation ministry is also currently considering offering similar treatment to Estonian drivers based on the principle of reciprocity, Lee said.
