Taipei, Feb. 6 (CNA) A cold spell is set to hit Taiwan from Friday afternoon, with temperatures dropping to as low as 7 degrees Celsius in northern and northeastern regions, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Thursday.
As the cold spell peaks from Friday to Sunday temperatures are expected to range between 9-21 degrees in central Taiwan, 10-22 degrees in the south, and 11-20 degrees in the east, according to the CWA.
Cloudy to rainy weather is likely, with intermittent showers forecast in areas north of Taoyuan, eastern Taiwan, and mountainous regions in the west, the CWA said.
Meanwhile, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) noted a chance of snowfall in mountains above 2,000 meters from Friday night through Saturday.
From next Monday to Wednesday, conditions will turn clear and stable, with temperatures gradually rising, though there will be a large day-night temperature difference, he said.
However, a new weather front will bring rain and cooler temperatures as cold air moves south next Thursday, Wu added.
