Taipei, Nov. 23 (CNA) The rainy weather seen in most parts of Taiwan on Wednesday will continue into Friday as a cloud system from southern China and seasonal northeasterly winds converge on the island, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The rain will bring cooler weather in northern Taiwan, with daytime highs forecast to hit 24-25 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Friday, down 4-5 degrees from Tuesday.

Slightly warmer weather is likely in central and southern Taiwan, with temperature highs forecast to hit 26-27 degrees and 28-29 degrees, respectively.

On Saturday, however, when Taiwan holds local government elections, the weather is expected to stabilize with less rain as the seasonal winds weaken and the moisture eases.

Echoing the CWB, Wu Der-rong (吳德榮), an adjunct associate professor of atmospheric sciences at National Central University, said cloudy to sunny skies are expected for western Taiwan on Saturday, but Greater Taipei and eastern Taiwan could see sporadic showers.

Wu said the relatively stable weather should continue through Nov. 29 as temperatures rebound.

As for Wednesday, the CWB said heavier rain is expected in areas north of Taichung as well as in the east, and it warned that temperatures at night will fall to 21-22 degrees at night.

The CWB also warned of strong winds in areas north of Yunlin County, as well as in southeastern Taiwan, the Hengchun Peninsula in the south, and the Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu islands.
