Taipei, Sept. 2 (CNA) The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) issued a sea warning for Typhoon Hinnamnor on Friday as it moved closer to waters southeast of Taiwan.
As of 8 a.m. Friday, the typhoon was located 470 kilometers east of Eluanbi, the southernmost tip of Taiwan, moving in a northwesterly direction at 6 kilometers per hour, according to the CWB.
It was carrying maximum sustained winds of 173 kph with gusts of up to 209 kph and a radius of 250 km, the bureau said.
Although Hinnamnor has weakened slightly in intensity, its radius is likely to continue to expand, it added.

The typhoon is currently approaching the Bashi Channel between Taiwan and the Philippines, posing a threat to waters southeast and northeast of Taiwan and the Bashi Channel, the CWB said.
It forecast that the periphery of Hinnamnor will bring heavy or extremely heavy rain to mountainous regions in Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan and Hsinchu on Friday, while heavy rain is also possible in flatland areas in northern Taiwan and Yilan.

The CWB defines heavy rain as accumulated rainfall of 80 millimeters or more within a 24-hour period or 40 mm or more in an hour, while extremely heavy rain refers to accumulated rainfall of 200 mm or more within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, coastal and open areas in western, northeastern and eastern Taiwan, as well as Orchid Island, Green Island, Penghu and the Matsu Islands could see wind gusts of 75-117 kph, as well as waves of between 3 and 6 meters in height, according to the CWB.
