Taipei, July 16 (CNA) International exchange students will again be allowed to enter Taiwan, with effect from Aug. 1, and they will be required to quarantine for three days, according to the Ministry of Education (MOE).

The reopening applies to foreign exchange students, excluding those from Hong Kong and Macau, who are seeking to enter Taiwan under educational cooperation programs between their schools and institutes in Taiwan, the Ministry of Education (MOE) said in a press release Saturday.

Meanwhile, Mandarin Chinese language students (including those from Hong Kong and Macau) are already being allowed into the Taiwan, once their program is for at least two months, the MOE said, adding that the border opening for that category of students began Friday.

Several other categories of international students are also being allowed to enter the country, including recipients of Ministry of Foreign Affairs scholarships and others pursuing formal academic degrees, the MOE said.

International students arriving in Taiwan are required to follow the same quarantine rules as other arrivals and quarantine for three days, followed by four days of self-heath monitoring, the MOE said.

Taiwan's borders have been closed to most foreign nationals since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
