Update: Two new cases confirmed in New Taipei preschool cluster; total at 29

Taipei, Sept. 12 (CNA) Taiwan on Sunday reported 14 new COVID-19 cases -- three transmitted domestically and 11 contracted overseas -- and zero deaths from the disease, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).

Of the domestic cases, one each was reported in Taipei, New Taipei and Taoyuan, the CECC said. Two cases are part of a COVID-19 cluster at a preschool and an apartment complex in Banqiao District, New Taipei, while one was still under investigation by health authorities, it said.

The 11 imported cases are eight Taiwanese and three foreign nationals, who arrived Friday from the United States, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and Malaysia, the CECC said.

The 14 new cases bring the total in Taiwan to 16,088, of which 14,402 are domestic infections reported since May 15, when the country first recorded more than 100 COVID-19 cases in a single day.

With no new deaths reported Sunday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country remained at 839, with all but 12 recorded since May 15, CECC data showed.

CECC officials usually hold a press briefing at 2 p.m. daily to report on new COVID-19 cases and other matters related to the disease, but Sunday's briefing was canceled due to Typhoon Chanthu.
