New Taipei light rail system to offer mobile payment discount
Taipei, May 31 (CNA) Passengers paying the fare on the Danhai Light Rail Transit system using a mobile method of payment will receive a 50 percent discount from June 1 to Aug. 31, the system operator New Taipei Metro Corp. said Friday.
According to the company, passengers using Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay will only be charged half price for their ride during the three-month period.
The discount, the company said, is aimed at attracting visitors to tourist spots along the Danhai light rail, such as Taiwan's largest mangrove conservation area by the Tamsui River and a bike lane at the end of the line, as the COVID-19 outbreak in Taiwan eases.
The light rail system currently comprises one line with 11 stations that began operations at the end of 2018 and connects to the Taipei Metro network at the Hongshulin station on the Red Line.
