CORONAVIRUS/Taiwan records no new COVID-19 cases Wednesday
Taipei, May 27 (CNA) Taiwan confirmed no new cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus Wednesday, leaving the total number of cases at 441 since the pandemic began late last year, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
It was also the 45th consecutive day with no domestically transmitted infections, according to CECC statistics. The last time Taiwan recorded a domestic infection was April 12.
In addition, nine of the 96 people returning from Russia the previous day who showed possible COVID-19 symptoms all tested negative, said Health Minister Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who also heads the CECC, at a daily press briefing.
The remaining 87 passengers of the group, who were stranded in Russia due to the pandemic and have been placed in designated quarantine facilities, will also be tested, Chen said.
To date, 419 COVID-19 patients in Taiwan have recovered, seven have died, and the remainder are still hospitalized, Chen said.
Globally, COVID-19 has infected 5,612,601 people in 187 countries and regions, including 1,708,378 in the United States, 374,898 in Brazil, 362,342 in Russia, 265,227 in the United Kingdom and 236,259 in Spain, with a total of 349,060 fatalities, according to CECC data as of Wednesday.
