Jensen Huang touts collaboration with TSMC in robotics, self-driving cars

Taipei, Jan. 18 (CNA) Jensen Huang (黃仁勳), CEO of American artificial intelligence (AI) chip designer Nvidia Corp., said Saturday that his company and TSMC are jointly creating new opportunities in areas such as robotics and self-driving cars.
Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), long-time partners, are working together to create new markets and new opportunities in areas such as robotics and self-driving cars, and there is much work to be done in the coming years, Huang said.
He made the remarks after hosting a closed-door luncheon in Taipei to treat the high-ranking management of his company's supply chain partners in Taiwan.
Speaking to the media during the event, Huang also noted that the world is at the beginning of a new computing revolution.
He added that the personal computer revolution popularized computers, paving the way for internet and mobile computing.
Meanwhile, Pegatron Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢), who was invited to the luncheon, reflected that Taiwan plays a "very, very important role" in the global AI supply chain.
Tung said Huang emphasized how crucial Taiwan was to the AI industry last year and that the country has now truly taken center stage in its development.
With Huang's company working with the likes of TSMC, Foxconn, Quanta, Wistron and Pegatron, Tung said Taiwan is Nvidia's "most important partner."
The luncheon featured many famous individuals representing some of Taiwan's biggest tech conglomerates who came together to celebrate "Team Taiwan."
Aside from Tung, other big names included TSMC Chairman C.C. Wei (魏哲家), Hon Hai (Foxconn) Chairman Young Liu (劉揚偉), and Quanta Chairman Barry Lam (林百里).

Huang also pledged to return to Taiwan to attend the annual Computex, scheduled for May.
On Saturday evening, he continued socializing at a private dinner with TSMC founder Morris Chang (張忠謀).
The two have shared a long-standing friendship, with the Taiwan-born Huang often dining with Chang and his wife, Sophie Chang (張淑芬), during his trips to Taiwan.
