Golden Horse Awards: Brigitte Lin, Chen Kun-hou receive lifetime achievement awards
Taipei, Nov. 25 (CNA) Actress Brigitte Lin (林青霞) and director-cinematographer Chen Kun-hou (陳坤厚) received lifetime achievement awards at the 60th Golden Horse Awards on Saturday.
Lin, 69, made her cinematic debut with "Outside the Window" in 1973, and rose to fame with many other works, such as "Cloud of Romance" in 1977, "Moon Fascination" and "A Love Seed" in 1979, which were blockbusters adapted from romance novels by Taiwanese novelist Chiung Yao (瓊瑤) and the pinnacle of romantic drama, according to the Golden Horse Awards website.
Lin later gained international fame by starring in award-winning director Wong Kar Wai's (王家衛) "Chungking Express" and "Ashes of Time" also in 1994.
Lin earned two Golden Horse Award nominations for best leading actress in "Magnificent 72" in 1980 and "The Switch" in 1982, and later won the award at the 27th Golden Horse Awards with "Till the End of the World" in 1990.
"I returned to this land from faraway where I was born to receive a lifetime achievement award," Lin said, "I want to dedicate this award to my parents, they were so worried about me when I was filming movies."
"I began my career as an actress at 17, and starred in over 100 films in 22 years," Lin said. To the 1,000-plus people she had worked with in the movie industry, "I'm grateful for your immense contributions," she added.
Furthermore, "I want to thank Chiung Yao, her first novel 'Outside the Window' also helped me make my debut." Lin said, "Now that I'm standing on the stage where I won the title of best actress 33 years ago, this achievement gives me the motivation to head toward the next milestone."
Meanwhile, Chen, 84, who began his career in the film industry in the 1960s and started working as a director of photography in the 70s was also presented with a lifetime achievement award.
In his career spanning six decades, Chen won two other Golden Horse awards: best cinematography for "He Never Gives Up" in 1979 and "His Matrimony" in 1985.
"Over the past 60 years I have so much to be thankful for," Chen said. "First I want to thank my wife for allowing me to spend time and money on producing films. I owe her too much."
"Films cannot be made by one person, but require the efforts of thousands of people. I'm very grateful for that," Chen added.
The 60th Golden Horse Awards ceremony was held Saturday at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
The annual awards, established in 1962, are considered to be among the most prestigious and time-honored film awards in the world of Chinese-language cinema.
