Taipei, Dec. 23 (CNA) Starting Jan. 1 entry to the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition will be free for Taichung citizens and children aged 12 and under whether from Taiwan or overseas.

Allowing citizens to visit the nearly six-month-long floral extravaganza for free was part of the political platform of Taichung mayor-elect Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) during the local government election campaign.

After her victory in the election on Nov. 24, Lu expanded the offer to include all children aged 12 and under.

The Taichung World Flora Expo, organized by Taichung City government, opened on Nov. 3 and will run through April 24 next year, with exhibitions in Houli, Fengyuan and Waipu districts.

Currently, visits to the Fengyuan park are free of charge, but the entrance fee at the Houli and Waipu parks ranges from NT$150 (US$11.35) to NT$350.

Lu will be sworn in as Taichung mayor on Tuesday.
